Is The Ego A Bad Thing

Is The Ego A Bad Thing? Yes And No!

Is The Ego A Bad Thing

Today we will be learning about “Is The Ego A Bad Thing?”. The answer is yes and no. In the world today, everyone has an ego. Some have a big ego while others have a small ego. Ego can be described as a big self-esteem. As I’m writing this piece, I can already feel my ego telling me things that I should never obey or listen to. The ego simply makes you ignore the sense of rationality. Some people fail to differentiate between ego and confidence. Ego is a killer while confidence is healthy and massively uplifting.

How many hearts have been broken in the name of ego? Many, right? Ego will take away you’re happiness, relationships, career and talent. Allowing you’re ego to lead you’re life means that you are already destroying you’re life. Below are the 8 key reasons why an ego should never be part of you’re life!

Is The Ego A Bad Thing? 8 Reasons Why It Is:

1. It Stops You From Growing:

Too much of an ego will make you stubborn and therefore, you stop listening to other people nor take their advice. Your ego will make you listen to yourself only. It’s a fact that we learn from other people, people who are more experienced in life. Therefore, the ego will easily stop you from growing and thus it hinders you from being successful.

2. It Makes You Greedy: (Super Dangerous)

The ego simply makes you to want more and win more in life. Being ambitious is a great thing, but attaching you’re ambitions to ego, you’re ambitions become torn apart. Some people will tell you that you are full of yourself, you want everything to yourself without considering others. The ego makes you become, the don’t care type of person.

3. It Blocks Love From Coming To You:

As said earlier, an ego makes you become the don’t care type of person. Typically, it makes you less caring. You may achieve all the successes that anyone will ever wish for, but people may be avoiding you because of you’re ego. Also, some people will never risk being told no’ i.e. you can’t ask someone out; you end up being not loved in the name of you’re ego. Lower that ego and love will come you’re way.

4. It Adds More Stress:

The ego makes you want everything and be ahead of everyone. Imagine waking up to such an ambition daily, you will become so hard on yourself and you end up adding more stress onto yourself in the name of ego. When someone else beats you out you feel so disappointed and jealous. Your ego just leaves you frustrated. They say that the happiest people are those who live a stress-free (ego-free) life.

5. It Pushes Nice People Away From You:

Well, an ego may attract a few wrong people into you’re life. However, it will push away many right ones’ from you. Personally, I love being around people who can readily lift me up and not those who want to show me how far better they are than me. Too much of an ego will make you be in a wrong company or live a lonely life. The truth is, no one wants to be a friend to an egoistic person.

6. It Makes You Less Compassionate:

With an ego, you will never see the good in others. Ego makes you see the worst in others and get defensive mostly. It makes you become very judgmental. Judging others based on their minor negative side, simply means that you will end up hating everyone. The ego makes you think that everyone is attacking you instead of trying to understand what they are telling you.

7. It Makes You Competitive In An Unhealthy Way:

Egoistic people tend to be very ambitious. They can do anything to achieve what they want, they can go to an extent of harming others so that they can be at the top. Ego makes people not want to wish others luck in their life. The ego will also make one to be less contented thus they may tend to take other people’s things, just to have them.

8. It Makes You Critical:

Egoistic people tend to criticize everything and everyone. Imagine living a life where all you do is point out the wrong things in people and criticize them. This attitude will stop you from enjoying life, all that you see in life and people, is the negative side. Being happy in life means picking up only positive things from you’re environment.

Conclusion:

The ego is a life destroyer, all it does is nothing but take away the good people, career, and the positive things in you’re life. Ego will make you live a frustrated life. Therefore, the best thing you can do is gain control over it. Ego is a very important life tool which if used for self gain, it becomes a big downfall of you’re life. You want to be happy? JUST GIVE UP YOUR EGO AND TAME IT. There is nothing wrong with having a little-bit of an ego, everyone does, it’s when it gets out of control and you try to push it on others and come off as some superior and you’re the best kind of attitude.

Wow, never thought about whether my confidence was really my ego, what an eye opener! I have to admit that sometimes it has shown difficult differentiating between the two, and that has really led me to make mistakes.

I thought you made an interesting point saying that it blocks love. When I think about the times when I was prideful or fueling my ego, it usually caused division or unkindness, leaving me feeling lonely.

This was just what I needed to read, thanks!

      Hi Jacob

I think it is hard to tell sometimes between the two. For me I just start to pay attention to how people are responding and then it keeps me in check lol. Thanks for stopping by.

I think if you have balance with ego then it can be a good thing. Confidence helps paint a positive image to others as long as you’re not intimidating in any way.

It also shows that your confident in yourself!

    Thanks for the article AJ:)

Very interesting article about the ego. I must admit that we men literally suffer from our ego and it is sometimes really hard to beat and I have worked my way through it, but sometimes it appears all over again and luckily now it is on the conscious level so I can recognize when I truly want something or when it is just a cry of ego. I guess that’s the man’s destiny to fight his ego all life. Great article.

This is such a great and useful post I think everyone should read. I agree with you EGO is a life destroyer and mostly people dont differentiate between EGO and self respect. Self respect is good but EGO is a complete life destroyer as you have said. Thank you fr sharing this amazing article.
